Introduction to Human Design Gate 35 | Gene Key 35

Gate 35 is known as The Gate of Change in Human Design. People with this gate defined carry a deep desire for newness. There’s a built-in restlessness, a pull toward adventure and fresh experiences. As Ra Uru Hu said, this energy isn't about whether something ends well. It's simply: “All’s well that ends.”

This is collective energy that drives us forward. It often shows up as an intense hunger—something has to change, and it needs to change now!

Where is Gate 35 in your Human Design Chart

Gate 35 lives in the Throat Centre - the hub of communication, manifestation, and action in your chart.
If it’s defined (the line is coloured in), it plays an important role in how you express and initiate change.

Gate 35 is located in the Throat Centre in Human Design. Here it is pictured as a

hanging gate.

Gate 35 in Human Design Circuitry

Think of Human Design Circuitry as the circuit board that lies beneath the rest of your design. Circuitry is the thing that all other aspects are placed upon. It lays the foundation and the energies here never change.

There are 3 main circuits in Human Design: Individual, Collective, and Tribal.

Gate 35 is part of the Channel of Transitoriness (35–36), a Collective Manifested channel. This means it’s designed to initiate action based on emotional clarity and a desire for experience.

This is an emotionally charged channel. If it’s defined in your chart, you’re likely to experience emotional waves that push you toward change. Your soul is here to taste life in all its forms and you’ll often experience a restlessness or ‘ratcheting up’ of your emotions.

Key to satisfaction: Let go of expectations. Embrace the journey. The experience is the point.

The 35-36 Channel on your Human Design Chart. Note - If you have this channel defined, your Emotional Solar Plexus will also be defined (not undefined like it’s shown here) You’ll be an Emotional Authority in Human Design with a Collective Emotional Wave.

Understanding Gate 35 in Your Human Design Chart

How does Gate 35 show up in your chart, and how can you tap into that adventurous energy? Start by taking a look at your own chart to see if Gate 35 is defined (the line is colored in)  or undefined (the line is blank). Next, look at the Throat Center to see if it is defined (coloured in) or undefined (blank).

Here are the possibilities for how this energy might show up for you:

Defined Gate 35 in a Defined Throat Centre

If Gate 35 is defined in a defined Throat Centre, this energy is consistent in your chart. You’re here to initiate change and speak from a place of lived experience. You likely thrive on variety and don’t enjoy being stuck in a rut. You’ll move people emotionally when you speak.

Defined Gate 35 in an Undefined Throat Centre

If Gate 35 is defined in an undefined Throat Centre, it’s considered dormant. It will activate when either the centre or the connecting Gate 36 (The Gate of Crisis) is defined by someone in your aura or a planetary transit.

Undefined Gate 35

If Gate 35 is undefined for you, you can still access its energy through others or transits. Be conscious of this borrowed energy. Observe how your desire for change shows up when this gate is active in your environment.

The Shadow of Gate 35

According to Gene Keys, the shadow of Gate 35 is hunger; a restless desire for something more, often leading
to dissatisfaction. In the shadow, you may chase change for the sake of avoiding discomfort. It can be hard to be with your ratchetty or restless emotions so instead of doing that, you go after adventure to distract yourself.

But this energy evolves.

Gene Key 35 moves from Hunger → Adventure → Boundlessness.

Your path is to embrace adventure without clinging to specific outcomes. When you allow yourself to learn through experience, you step into the boundless potential of your design, without being attached to a particular outcome.

A Personal Practice for Gate 35

Ask yourself:
What adventure can I experience today—just for the sake of the experience?

Let go of the outcome. Trust the ride.
