Human Design Gate 42 | Gene Key 42 | Growth

Gate 42 (Gene Key 42) is the Gate of Growth; explore its position in the Human Design chart, the 53-42 Channel, and the Sacral Centre; harness Gate 42’s potential.

Introduction to Human Design Gate 42 and Gene Key 42

Human Design Gate 42 is The Gate of Growth.

If I ever have Human Design envy, it’s for this gate!
Gate 42 carries the inherent need to finish what you start. It’s a genetic imperative in your design. There is a deep pull toward completion, whether that means naturally allowing cycles to end or forcefully closing them out.

Starting can sometimes be difficult here, but once something is in motion, Gate 42 energy ensures it comes to completion.Location of Gate 42 in your Human Design Chart

Where is Gate 42 Located in Your Human Design Chart?

Gate 42 is located in the Sacral Centre of the Human Design bodygraph. The Sacral is the powerhouse of sustainable energy and life force, and in Gate 42 that energy is devoted to seeing cycles through.

Gate 42 is a Sacral Gate which means it’s housed in the Sacral Centre in Human Design.

The 53-42 Channel and Gate 42’s Human Design Circuitry

Circuitry in Human Design describes the foundational wiring of your chart. There are three main circuits: Individual, Collective, and Tribal.

Gate 42 belongs to the Channel of Maturation (53–42) in the Collective Circuit. This channel is all about cycles of development and growth. Gate 53 provides the energy to start things, and Gate 42 provides the energy to finish them.

With the full Channel of Maturation defined, you are here to move through cycles of beginnings, growth, and completion. You may feel restless if things are left unfinished, and you thrive when you can bring projects, relationships, and experiences to their natural conclusion.

If The Channel of Maturation is defined for you (53-42) both your Sacral and Root Centre will be defined.

This energy formats your entire design, meaning that everything you do comes back to honouring the cycle you’re in and bringing it to completion.

Tapping into Gate 42’s Energy

How does Gate 42 show up in your chart? Start by looking to see if Gate 42 is defined (coloured in) or undefined (blank). Then check whether your Sacral Centre itself is defined or undefined. If your Sacral Centre is defined, you’re a Generator or Manifesting Generator, like about 70% of the population.

Defined Gate 42 in a Defined Sacral Centre

If Gate 42 is defined in your defined Sacral Centre, you always carry this energy. You’re wired for growth and completion, and you thrive by moving through cycles fully.

Defined Gate 42 in an Undefined Sacral Centre

If Gate 42 is defined in an undefined Sacral Centre, it is considered dormant. This energy activates when you’re with someone who has Gate 53 (the Gate of Beginnings) defined, or during planetary transits. You can read about Gate 53 here.

Undefined Gate 42

If Gate 42 is undefined in your chart, you’ll experience its growth energy in the presence of others who carry it, or during transits.
You may feel more driven to finish or complete things when influenced by this energy.

The Gene Keys Shadow and Gift of Gate 42

According to the Gene Keys, the shadow of Gate 42 is expectation.

Richard Rudd explains that Gene Key 42 moves from expectation, through detachment, into celebration. At its lowest expression, expectation creates pressure and disappointment when outcomes don’t match your vision. At its highest, this gate invites you to detach
from rigid expectations and celebrate the growth that comes through every cycle, regardless of how it ends.
