How to Use Human Design Circuitry in Business

Can Your Human Design Circuitry Help You Build the Right Coaching Business?

If you’ve ever wondered what type of coaching or service model you’re best suited for, whether it’s one-on-one support, group programs, long containers, or short intensives, your Human Design circuitry holds important clues.

This isn’t rigid science, but after working with hundreds of entrepreneurs in the online space, I’ve seen again and again how understanding your circuitry helps you find the right business model.

If you're building an online business and you want to know whether you’re better suited to close-knit mentorship or wide-scale impact, keep reading. This post is for you.

What Is Human Design Circuitry?

This question came in from a listener of the Unjaded podcast, and it’s one of my favourite topics to explore. (If you prefer to listen, you can catch the episode here)

Human Design circuitry is like the blackbox of your house. It powers how your energy flows and how you're designed to connect with others. Circuitry is foundational, yet most people don’t learn about it until later in their Human Design journey. That’s a mistake. Once you understand your own circuitry, you’ll make more aligned decisions in your business, and content creation becomes a whole lot easier.

How to Identify Your Human Design Circuitry in the Chart

Take a look at your Bodygraph. See those little numbers inside the energy centers (the shapes)? Those are your gates. When two of your gates are connected by a full line, that’s called a channel. Channels make up the Human Design circuits.

There are four types of circuitry:

  • Individual

  • Collective

  • Tribal

  • Integration (technically not a circuit, but it’s often grouped in) Integration Channels form the backbone of the entire bodygraph in Human Design. That’s a story for another day.

Let’s break them down and I’ll show you how to apply them in your business.

1. Individual Circuitry: Trailblazers and Innovators

If you have a lot of Individual circuitry, you’re here to be uniquely you. Your energy is deeply personal and often mutative, meaning it catalyzes change.

You likely don’t follow traditional business paths, and honestly? You’re not meant to. Your superpower is leading by example. You’re most powerful when you do what lights you up, not what others expect.

Best business fit:

  • Courses or programs you lead in your own way

  • Speaking and visibility-based work

  • Models where you're not tied to constant one-on-one support

At the end of the day, with Individual Circuitry, you empower others simply (and I say that loosely) by being yourself. I do understand that that’s often the hardest thing to do!

2. Collective Circuitry: The Messengers of the Masses

Collective energy is about sharing with the many. People with strong Collective circuitry are here to observe, interpret, and pass on wisdom that helps others evolve.

There’s abstract energy (storytelling, reflection) and logic energy (systems, prediction) in this circuit. Both benefit the collective in different ways.

Best business fit:

  • Group coaching

  • Courses and workshops

  • Public-facing platforms (podcasts, YouTube, memberships)

This is my dominant circuitry, and it’s why group programs like Content by Design are such a sweet spot for me. I love the ripple effect of teaching and reaching many at once.

At the end of the day, with Collective Circuitry, you’re here to have an impact on the collective. Your design is one of sharing.

3. Tribal Circuitry: The Holders of the Heartbeat

Tribal energy is about loyalty, support, and commitment. If you have strong Tribal circuitry, you probably shine in one-on-one relationships where you can go deep with someone over time.

These people are natural caregivers and accountability anchors. They’re often the coaches who stick with their clients through thick and thin.

Best business fit:

  • Long-term mentorship

  • One-on-one coaching

  • High-touch experiences like masterminds or retreats

I always say Tribal people “hold” us. Their magic is in their steadfast presence.

At the end of the day, Tribal Circuitry is supportive. It’s here to hold and support others - not the collective - the members of the specific tribe. I always think of the saying “Find your people, love them hard” with Tribal Circuitry.

4. Integration Circuitry: Empowered Self-Leadership

Integration isn’t technically a full circuit. It’s the backbone the other three are built on. It’s the most powerful influence in the Human Design chart.

People with Integration energy are fiercely independent. They're designed for survival, self-trust, and walking their own path. This energy often brings a deep knowing of what needs to happen next and the courage to follow it.

Best business fit:

  • Thought leadership

  • Example-based teaching

  • Models that preserve autonomy

This is a strong part of my design too. Integration folks often need freedom in how they show up and prefer leading by example over micromanaging others. At the end of the day, Integration Channels are all about being self empowered.

What If You Have a Mix of Human Design Circuitry?

Most people have a blend of the 3 different types of circuitry if they have more than one channel defined.. I’ve only met two people, in all my years of reading charts who had only one type of circuitry.

Your Human Design is not a prescription—it’s an invitation.

  • If you have strong Collective and Tribal energy? You might thrive with a hybrid model—say, a group program with a one-on-one upgrade.

  • If you’re all Individual? Honor your need for creative freedom. Don't overcommit to containers that require constant output.

  • If you’ve got a little bit of everything? You might love building a business that offers a range of ways to work with you.

Human Design Circuitry is The Foundation of Your Design

Most Human Design courses start with Type, Strategy, and Authority. All important, but I think we should be teaching Circuitry right out of the gate.

Your Circuitry is the foundation. It sets the tone for how you express yourself, how you interact, and how you show up in business. Just like the electrical panel in your home powers everything else, circuitry guides how your whole chart functions.

Once you understand it, your content creation, messaging, offers, and even launch strategy can align more naturally.

Use Your Circuitry to Guide Your Business Model

Take a look at your chart. What channels do you have? Which circuits do they belong to?

Start playing with the themes that emerge. Let them guide how you show up online, how you coach or teach, and what kind of programs you create. When your work is aligned with your energy, everything becomes easier—including creating content and calling in clients.

Want to Create Content that Reflects Who You Really Are?
